Newsletter June 2018

Summer arrived with a vengeance in the North Country. 92 degrees today, and not a lot of activity seen at the local trailheads. We have not previously published the testimonials we receive, but at a meeting of fellow licensed guides, it was mentioned more than once that we should begin to publish these. So I am copying some writing my most recently received letter (June 15, 2018):

“Dear Sheila, I want to, once again, thank you for the most enjoyable and informative day we spend together at the Loj. Our day out went a long way to increase my understanding of and practical use of the map and compass. I also enjoyed you pointing out the various flora and possible survival uses. I had an opportunity to use my skills yesterday. My husband & I went on a short hike in Harriman. Prior to the trip I did some map bearings. At one point we had to use an unmarked trail. The direction was not clear by looking. I used my bearing from the map & sure enough we were able to get on the trail. I have sent in my registration/lottery for BOW, with luck I will see you there. I’ve only one thing I did not do with you was to get a picture of you. Hopefully, I will be able to do that in September.

Regards, MDG”
